Binatone was one of several companies to make Pong Machines in the 1970s. The company was founded by two brothers in the UK in 1958.
The company was named after their sister, Bina. The company started by importing radios from Hong Kong and would go on to manufacture electronic goods and were once one of the UK’s largest manufacturers of cordless phones. Pong machines are the oldest type of video game console with the first being the Magnavox Odyssey in 1972. Binatone released the TV Master Series in 1976. They went on to release five black and white versions and four colour versions (all the colour ones correspond to a back and white one). The ‘MK’ model number represents the number of games included and the game is changed was a switch or buttons depending on the model. Most of the games are variants of pong but some games used a light guns to shoot moving objects on the screen, unfortunately light guns only work on CRT screens. |
